I JUST rode past a group of magpies attacking what looked like a piece of bread. As I got closer they flew off and what I thought was bread was in fact a rodent, a baby rat or some sort of mousey/vole, though it seemed too big to be either of those. It was still alive and looked in shock. Presumably it was injured. So....I guess they eat more than mice, and evidentally don't simply scavenge on dead animals!

Nothing, when a magpie dies it is decomposed by bacteria & fungi.

Magpies are birds that are in the crow family. Magpies will eat berries, seeds, and insects and worms. They are scavengers and will eat maggots.
