The contaner it is in could shatter or crack (especially if it is glass!) with the hot liquid cooling off to quickly. This act could also cause tea bits to congeal and form a pulp-like mizture as the tea may not have had time to be fully infused with the hot water yet.

Also, food close to the hot food may become semi-warmed, which is not good for preventing food poisoning. Always rapidly cool hot food (cover and place in a draught on the window sill, for instance), and put into the fridge once cold.
