Roughage aka fiber is not a nutrient because it is not a part of any chemical that can help the body build its own components for repair of wear & tear & renewal & growth. It does not provide any sugar, amino acids, vitamins or minerals or fatty acids. It does two things. The soluble fiber binds the fats & cholesterol & takes it out of the body. The insoluble fiber absorbs a lot of water & provides bulk to food without providing any calories, so it makes you feel full. You need to chew it, so it makes you take longer to eat your food. And, sort of like the broom or a brush, it helps to prevent the food we eat from sticking to the sides of the digestive tract & make it move along on its way out. When we eat foods that is high in fiber with a lot of water, the food moves out more quickly & prevents constipation. This makes bowel movements regular, in a way like keeping the pipes clean & unblocked. This prevents the bloated & gassy feeling, as there is no old food sitting & kind of rotting in the gut.

Nutrients are substances in food that the body uses to feed itself.
Concentrated food for horses in the stable typically refers to grains or pellets that are high in energy and nutrients, such as oats or commercial feeds. Roughage, on the other hand, includes hay, grass, or other high-fiber feeds that help maintain gut health and provide bulk for digestion. Both are important components of a horse's diet, with concentrated food usually providing essential nutrients and energy, while roughage supports digestive health and provides fiber.

Guinea pigs have a lot of fibre and roughage in their diets, so they eat some of their faeces to make sure that they have got all the nutrients out of their food.
It is important to know what is being eaten. Roughage is indigestible material in vegetables, that helps the gut pass food and waste.
Roughage are usually stored in green leave\vegetable such as Spanish, beans and even fruits like banana
