As we all know, triangles are thinner up the top and wider down the bottom. The foods we need to eat the most are at the bottom because there are more of them and that's where there is more space. The food we should eat least is up the top because there are less of these and the top is where there is less space. Don't forget that the foods we should eat can also be represented in a pie diagram as well. Hope this helps!

The food pyramid is designed to help you better understand what you should eat everyday. It's shape is no accident. The old food pyramid used its shape to represent the amount of each group you should include in your diet. The bottom and middle of the pyramid, the largest part of the pyramid, represents the largest part of your diet. The top and smallest part of the pyramid, represents the nutrients that should be eaten conservatively. The new food pyramid still uses a pyramid shape, but instead uses the pyramid to represent the importance of physical activity. This new pyramid depicts a person walking up stairs to the top of the pyramid, depicting regular exercise.

First of all notice that food pyramids have certain amounts of different colors because those colors represent the amount of certain type of foods that you should eat daily. now the shape is a refference to how you climb to achieve your health goal. So in other words the figure climbing the food pyramid is you climbing to achiver your goals. the reason why the triangle was chosen to represent your daly food goal is unknown to me, just keep in mind what I said about the figure climbing to achieve its goal.
