A unicorn is deadly because it is a big animal with hooves, teeth and a horn all of which could inflict a mortal wound if it was so inclined to do so.

Now (according to Lewis Carrol) the unicorn stabbed the Lion through the heart and yet the Lion didn't seem to be all that inconvenienced. Perhaps the unicorn's horn is not a deadly weapon but it reserved for 'nice' effects.

A unicorn is only deadly when it is threatened to the point of self-defense.
