Lorraine Lorusso started working as a candy buyer for Stop and Shop in 1962. She was a candy buyer that made $125 a week, and she did regular candy demonstrations in front of the store in the display area to promote new products. One day she saw the Driscoll strawberries in the produce department and thought why not dip these gorgeous strawberries that were the size of small apples into chocolate. Lorraine Lorusso will tell you that she was born in a "chocolate pot", and her families experience in the candy business was her inspiration for the tasty chocolate covered strawberries. Lorraine says she remembers that they sold for 50cents a piece and "they sold like hotcakes". Despite the opposition from her bosses Lorraine moved forward with her idea just in time for mother's day. That was only the beginning...
