It is fairly common for one individual in a group of young to have inherited a strong sense of survival and competition. Even baby birds in their nests how this tendency. Or . . . it may be that one baby birds learns to get more food after it behaves in a way that gains it more food. Perhaps one time, he accidentally gets in front of the other babies in the nest, and is rewarded with a nice worm. At the next feeding, it might try on purpose to get in front of its nest-mates . . . and a new behavior is started!
Others babies may have inherited a weak sense of competing for food, hence tend to be the 'runts'. So it is with chicks.

∙ 14y agoMany young pullets lay a few "test" eggs as their reproductive system develops.
Some eggs first laid are yolkless or mis-shaped. It takes a few days for the hen to start producing optimum size eggs typical for her individual breed.

∙ 12y agoAll chickens lay eggs (not chicks), chicks hatch out of eggs if the eggs are fertilised by a cockerel.
In nature all the eggs a chicken would lay are hatched out. However, man has over time domesticated the chicken and we take the eggs that the chicken lays (and keep them away from the cockerels) and eat them, this means that the chicken never 'fills her nest' so she keeps laying eggs.

∙ 13y agoDifferent breeds. Just like people, chickens come in all sizes and colors.
How big chickens get depends on the breed of the bird. Some will only grow to the size of a pigeon while others can grow to about 18 pounds.
Yes, chickens actually enjoy eating small snakes, or even big dead snakes. If the snake is too big, or is poisonous, it may be the other way around though!
I would wait until the younger chickens are at least a few months old. The older chickens will peck the younger ones, but they will stop at some point.
"Banti hen" is a term used to refer to bantam hens, which are miniature chicken breeds known for their small size and ornamental appearance. Bantam hens are often kept as pets or for their beautiful plumage.
Some are big and some are small
The answer to this would totally depend of the breed of chicken. Some chickens have large wonderful tail feathers while others appear to have no tail at all.
It depends on the breed of the chicken. Bantam chickens are quite small, about 20 centimeters long. Full size hens are about 30 centimeters long, and full size roosters are a bit larger than this.
Some big, some small, more big ones than smll ones.
Chickens seem to enjoy raisins/grapes, red tomatoes, melon scraps, sunflower seeds, grasshoppers, worms, and small mice.
They will lay a bit but eggs are quite small. I will go with production reds or americana chickens for some great egg laying hens.
The size of chickens can vary depending on the breed. Some breeds, like Jersey Giants or Brahma chickens, can grow to be quite large, with roosters weighing up to 13-15 pounds and hens around 10-12 pounds. Other breeds, such as bantams, are much smaller, with roosters weighing around 2 pounds and hens around 1.5 pounds.
Old mountain are the biggest but some are small. well actually some are small some are big so i guess none really
