Peanut butter is a little difficult to pin down, but one thing we can be absolutely sure of is that it was not invented by George Washington Carver. The notion of crushing peanuts into a paste was already centuries old by the time Carver was born, and in fact several machines for making peanut butter had been patented before Carver began his work on peanuts, including a method developed by J.H.Kellogg (yes, the breakfast cereal guy). Carver may have helped popularize it, but he certainly did not invent it.
Penicillin is a little clearer: its actual discovery is usually attributed to Alexander Fleming, though again others had previously noted the beneficial properties of certain molds on infected wounds.
