∙ 12y agoWell, they take a baby calf when they are only a few days old and they break their legs (from what I've heard my teacher told me this) so they can't move then put them into these domes and inject stuff into them to tenderize them then wait until they die then voila theres your veal. My teacher has a video on this actually... there is hidden cameras in this veal factory and this stuff is happening. It was hard for me to believe too, but if you want the answer here it is.

Where does a veal shank come from
No, it can't.
Veal does not come from any part of a cow. Veal is the meat from dairy bull calves that are not needed in dairy production and are sent either for slaughter or to be fed a special feed prior to slaughter.
The part of the calf that veal chops come from is the hind quarter. Veal chops have a T shaped bone, a tenderloin and a large eye.
Yes, though most types of veal come from calves being slaughtered between 18-26 weeks old. There is an English veal called "Rose Veal" that comes from calves slaughtered at 35 weeks.
veal chops veal tenerloin veal shanks osso bucco veal top round for medallions veal sweetbreads...mmm
Using veal meat
None of it. Veal comes from young dairy bull calves that are slaughtered for their meat. Thus the meat of these young animals is called veal, just like meat from a deer is called venison or meat from a sheep is called mutton.
The meat from a deer is called venison. Cooked properly, it is very tasty and low in fat.
A pie with veal
Veal is healthier, from the point of view that it has less fat. However it is less ethical, since what you are eating is a calf that has been locked in a small room all it's life. I'm not saying don't eat pink veal, which is free-range and ethically not too bad, but white veal is very controversial because it is very unethical how they raise and kill the animals.
