Well when you buy the block if you just want a simple snack, you cut the tofu into cubes and you put soy sauce over it and enjoy. If its for a main dish, you can add it to a traditional stir fry. Or you can have it with beef and vegetables. Chicken is also a good choice. If you need more ideas, just Google tofu!
2 tbsp. oil
3 tbsp. soy sauce
2 tbsp. wine vinegar
1/2 c. water
2 tbsp. dried oregano
1/4 tsp. garlic powder

1 lb. super firm tofu, sliced 1/2 inch thick In a shallow bowl or baking pan, combine all ingredients except tofu. Mix well. Add tofu, cover, and marinate in the refrigerator 4-5 hours. Turn tofu slices several times while marinating. Preheat broiler. Lightly oil a shallow baking pan. Remove tofu slices from marinade and place on prepared pan in a single layer. Broil, turning several times, until desired crispness is reached. While tofu is cooking, heat marinade in a small saucepan. Serve with tofu. 6 Japanese eggplants, cut into 1/2 to 3/4 inch slices

I put all this onto a big sheet of foil, eliminates clean-up doncha
know. I sprinkled some lemon pepper on the tofu slices.
I baked all this in a 400F oven for about 40 minutes, everything looked
well roasted by then.
I boiled 1 pound whole wheat spaghetti
added all the veggies, including the garlic, squeezed out
Dress with about 1 1/2 cup canned crushed tomatoes and 1/3 cup
tarragon wine vinegar.
U can use tofu in just about anything! :)
-Try serving fried tofu with pasta and steamed veggies, with a little tomato sauce and parmesan cheese!
-Or: Serve baked tofu with rice or quinoa, baked squash and steamed veggies, or salad
-Or Even: Combine fried tofu or baked tofu with roasted or sautéed veggies and salsa in a wrap
-Also: Add fried tofu to a grain based pilaf, or veggie stew
-Lastly: Fried tofu is delicious on a bun with mayo, lettuce & tomato
(Store baked tofu in a container in the fridge for Sandwiches)

Silken tofu is a food, so I'm not entirely sure what you mean by a "food equivalent" for it... If you mean a 'meat equivalent, there is none. And if you mean 'a substitute for' silken tofu, normal tofu will usually work if the recipe is savory. But don't use regular tofu as a replacement for silken in an ice-cream/mousse dessert; in this case there is no replacement for silken tofu.
