A biscuit that can be cooked at home is a cookie

In Britain it's mostly 'biscuits', in North America, it's mostly 'cookies'. As a Briton, I had not heard of cookies until the age of ten, when I visited my cousins in Canada.

A biscuit is an British English name.

A cookie is an American English name.

They both mean the same thing. But more recently in England the word 'Cookie' has come to mean a large saucer size biscuit which normally has chocolate or some other sweet mixed into it and is eaten with a cup of coffee.
