A spice kitchen is primarily used in Korean/Asian households. It is where the wok is used, and where other oily dishes are made. It is separate from the other kitchen in the house. It just keeps the oil/steam in the air in one part of the house.
Certain ethnic cultures have spice kitchens because of the spices they place in their cooking. However, unless the so called "spice kitchen" has a separate ventilation system independent of the rest of the home, having one installed is totally useless as the odor and smells from the spices will still permeate throughout the entire home.
Case in point: On a recent episode of "Love It or List It" on HGTV, a couple wanted a spice kitchen, but said kitchen was totally open only adjacent to the main kitchen. It was defeating the purpose having it that way.
