Literally, Sahabi means a friend, a companion. But this term is used for a man who embraced Islam during the lifetime of the last Prophet of Islam Hazrat Muhammad SAW, saw him and remained in his company for some time. The woman is called Sahabiah. Almighty Allah says in the Holy Qur'an that all such men and women are the blessed people and that Almighty Allah is pleased with them all. No Muslim should pass any derogatory remark against any of the Companions (May Allah be pleased with them all).
