A Betta is one of the only fish capable of living in a bowl. The reason is that Betta fish have a specially designed organ called a labyrinth. They use it to breath oxygen from the surface. That way they can handle living a bowl without moving current. Other fishes might be able to survive but the chances are slim. You would find them constantly near the surface struggling to get the little amount of dissolved oxygen there.

I'm assuming here that you do not have a bubbler/filter system in place. If you did you might try adding white cloud mountain minnows or guppies (assuming you have a heater in the bowl too), but I would still use caution and suggest getting a bigger tank if you can.

Finally, there is another fish that is adaptable to the conditions of an unheated and unfiltered bowl. This is the paradise fish. It is small, has a labyrinth to breath oxygen, and is cold water so in a way is happier in an unheated bowl than the Betta.

The only problem is that depending where you are local pet stores may not carry the paradise fish because they are not as popular as the Betta.

Remember to always buy the biggest tank or bowl you can possibly afford and that you have the space for. All fish are happier with more room.

What fish are okay in a fish bowl?

Bettas are. Goldfish really should have an aquarium if you want them to live.

Why can't two beda fish be together?

The reason two beta fish cannot be together is because they are very solitary and aggresive fish. They like to have space to themselves. If you put two male beta fish together, they will fight each other to death. Usually, it is okay to put a male and female beta together, but definitly NOT two males. Hope this helps! Regards, Ryan S. :)

Will the goldfishes be okay for 1 week until you get a bigger fish tank?

In a gold fish bowl, sure. But in the little baggies you get from the pet store, most definitely NOT.

Is it okay if atleast 2 times a week to change water in fish bowl?

"fish bowls" are not designed for fish regardless of how they are marketed; you should not keep fish in anything smaller than a 10 gallon tank.

How do you clean a circular fish bowl?

This is for betta fish but you can use it for other fish too but why would you keep a fish in a bowl tha's not a betta? Betta are the only fish that can stay in a bowl: When you first get the fish clean out the bowl (make sure there's no dust or anything). How to clean the bowl the first time: At the first time you need completely new water for the fish. Wipe the bowl and make sure it doesn't have dust, residue, or anything dirty make it super clean and shiny. You'll need to put warmish water into the bowl and add water cleaner so it doesn't harm the fish. You can buy water cleaner from your local pet store (the one you got the fish from). And your bowl is ready to go. Second time cleaning the bowl: Make sure you have a container to put your fish in when you clean the water. It has to be big enough so your fish can swim in it. Now you take just a little bit of the old water and keep it for the bowl after. Okay, now you take the fish out with a net and put it in a container with water in it. Now you take out the extra water in the bowl that has poop in it and stuff and put it down the sink or something. Then you clean the bowl if you have to and add water wih water cleaner into the bowl. Also leave some room for the old water from the bowl before it was cleaned so the betta doesn't get shocked or anything from the water change. Then, add water cleaner to the bowl again. Now take your fish out of the container with the net and put your fish back to where he was. That's about it. And also after a few weeks change ALL of the water and keep it warmish. If you change the water temperature to cold right away he'll go into shock for the change of temperature! hope I helped :)

If you have a medium sized bowl and have a Siamese fighting fish in it is it okay to keep another fish in it or would it be too full?

There are not many fish that can be kept with Siamese fighting fish. They are able to survive in small bowls because they have a breathing organ (a labyrinth) that allows them to breathe some atmospheric air. While they will get on with most catfish, livebearers and other small fish, these other fish will not be happy in a bowl. If you add a filter, you could keep some pygmy corydoras, otocinclus catfish, ember tetras or white cloud mountain minnows. Each of these are schooling species, buy at least 3 and be aware you will now have a lot more water changes to do.

How do you set up a fish bowl?

To set up a fish bowl, start by thoroughly cleaning the bowl with warm water (no soap). Add washed gravel to the bottom, but avoid sharp edges that could harm the fish. Fill the bowl with dechlorinated water, set up a filter and heater if needed, and then acclimate your fish before introducing them to their new home.

What kind of conditions do water snails live in?

I recommend anything with water and space for the snails to eat. Basically any freshwater fish tank with be okay for the snails. I must tell you though, never to put snails in with beta fish because sometimes the beta fish will try to eat the snail so i recommend putting them in with goldfish or some other freshwater fish. I have a 10 gallon freshwater tank with a common goldfish and a golden inca snail and they live happily together. I hope this helps!
