It refers to the typical Pennsylvania Dutch table setting during a meal which includes side dishes or "relishes" 7 of which are sweet and the other 7 which are sour. Such items have included things like (Red Beet Eggs) which is a standard "sour" to things like cinnamon bread, or bread and butter pickles which would be a sweet, in addition to the regular side dishes and main course offered by a Pennsylvania Dutch Family style meal. Really the only way to practice this would be to go to an Amish or Mennonite family style restaurant. Or cook it for yourself, which at times can be difficult depending on where your from, some of the things on a typical Lancaster County meal are only made in places where the Amish and Mennonites have a strong presence (Pa, Ohio, Indiana etc). while others you can pick up at your local grocery store. Best of Luck and Enjoy.
