The traditional Italian pizza, originating in Naples, is the Margherita and is topped with tomato, basil, olive oil and mozzarella cheese. The red, green and white colours represent the Italian flag; it was named in 1889 after Queen Margherita, consort to King Umberto of Italy, and it was not until that time that cheese appeared on Neapolitan pizza.
As a guaranteed traditional specialty of Italy, authentic Neapolitan pizza is allowed in three varieties: pizza Margherita, pizza Margherita extra, and pizza marinara. The marinara contains no seafood: it is named marinara as in 'sailor's pizza'. Naples is considered by many to be the home of pizza, but other regions of Italy have their own specialties. The toppings generally remain simple.
Pizzas now, however, are produced worldwide, commercially or in the home, with any kind of topping or combination of toppings you could imagine. Some pizza is so loaded with toppings in an apparent effort to outdo others (or possibly to use up extra produce, or because the cook is bored) that the slices simply cannot be lifted and eaten by hand: a knife and fork are necessary, which rather defeats the purpose of what is essentially a street food, designed for quick and easy eating.
If you want to establish traditional Italian pizza toppings outside of Naples, you can research the various regions and investigate their specialties. Roman (Lazio-style) pizza are the best known, but different styles range throughout Italy. The Sicilian pizza differs from other types: the cheese is placed on the pastry base and topped with the sauce rather than the other way round; Sicily also traditionally produces a type of pizza in which the ingredients are baked into the base, so it is more a foccacia-style food than pizza as we know it.
If you simply want to discover what foods can be used to top a pizza, the answer is, as you can see, absolutely anything. To my mind, nothing beats the flavour and aroma of the simple Margherita and its regional cousins, but it is truly up to you what you add.
To gain an idea of popular pizza toppings in your country, search online for well-known pizzeria and check out their menus: this will offer an excellent guide for you.

It's a matter of preference really. You can combine almost anything on a pizza and it tastes good. Most American style pizzas contain a combination of meats, vegetables and cheese. Pepperoni, Hamburger, Ham, Onions, Olives and Green Peppers are most common.
The best pizza toppings are tomato paste and cheese. Without those two key ingredients, it would no longer be a pizza. The best pizza topping will obviously be what you personally prefer.
The most popular topping is pepperoni
jalapenos
