A gluten-free diet is a diet that doesn't contain the protein gluten. Gluten is found in grains such as wheat, barley, rye and triticale (a cross between wheat and rye). Eating a gluten-free diet helps those with celiac disease.
As for vanilla it depends on what is meant: ice cream, flavoring or the vanilla bean. The vanilla bean itself doesn't contain gluten. You would have to read the labels of the other two. If you have celiac disease, your doctor should have already have given you a list of what to eat or not.
If you don't have celiac disease, eating gluten-free foods just to lose weight has some side effects. Many people actually gain weight rather than lose it. Often, gluten free foods are very high in carbohydrates and cost more.
yes but gluten-free doesn't necessarily mean 0% gluten, as there is still an approx 0.03% gluten which is barely anything
Yes, pure vanilla is naturally gluten-free.
The worry many celiacs have concerning vanilla extract is that it usually contains, in large part, alcohol. The concern is that the alcohol, if it is made with a grain like wheat or barley, could contain gluten. Distilled alcohol, however, is gluten free even if the alcohol was originally made with a gluten-containing grain. The distillation process removes the gluten. Vanilla extract is ordinarily made with distilled alcohol. In case of any doubts, use a vanilla extract made with bourbon which is certified gluten free and is also excellent tasting.
It says on the bottle it is naturally gluten free
As far as I was told by the customer service person they use a small amount of alcohol during the extraction of vanilla flavor from the vanilla seeds...
