No. The different metals react with the water, and the byproducts are poisonous to fish. Only use natural rocks, glass or plastics
Simply by living and breathing in water a fish puts out poisonous Ammonia and other bi products like CO2. In nature this ammonia and CO2 are used up by naturally occurring aerobic bacteria and water plants including algae. In a closed situation like a fish tank a cycled filter is used to biologically convert the poisonous Ammonia into (still poisonous) Nitrite and then into relatively harmless Nitrate. This nitrate can then be used up by plant life and algaes and the excess removed by regular water changes. The above information explains some of the basic rules of fish keeping which are :- 1 inch of fish needs a minimum of 1 gallon of water. :- Every fish tank needs a cylced filter running permanently. :- Every fish tank needs to have at least 50% of its water changed every week. If you follow the above rules you should have very few problems keeping fish. Failure to keep to the rules always results in sick and dying fish.
In any tank under around 30 gallons, at least 50% of the fish tank water must be replaced every week to remove/reduce Nitrates that are created in the filter. A 'cycled' filter is used to convert the poisonous ammonia that is produced in the tank by the fish, first into Nitrite and then into Nitrate. The basic rules of successfull fishkeeping are. :- 1 inch of fish must have at least 1 gallon of water. Every tank must have a permanently running 'cycled' filter. Every tank must have at least 50% of its water replaced every week.
Salt Water Fish
The commonest reason for a Bettas fins to shrink is rotten water. If you are not following the basic rules of fishkeeping the water will be poisonous. The rules are.:- " 1 inch of fish (a Betta is a 3 inch fish) needs at least 1 gallon of water. Every tank must have a permanently running 'cycled' filter. Every tank must have at least 50% of its water replaced every week.
Assuming the dirty fish tank has had fish and water in it, without doing various specialised water tests it is impossible to tell what is in it.
Aerobic bacteria breath oxygen as they do their work. These aerobic bacteria are needed to convert the deadly poisonous Ammonia that all fish produce in water, firstly into poisonous Nitrite and then convert the Nitrite into virtually harmless Nitrate.
Live Aquaria provides you with supplies to preserve a fish tank with salt water fish. Fish tank provides lighting, fish food, and more to help you maintain your salt water fish tank.

The white scale on the inside of the fish tank is from a buildup of minerals that were in the water.
Yes. When fish food(ex. tropical flake) sits for too long, it turns into ammonia, a very poisonous substance for fish.(and everything else too!) To prevent your fish from dying from ammonia, clean your tank about every 2 months.
