They are a bit like you and I and every other animal. They breath harder and more often when they are active so there is no specific breathing rate. They will also be seen to make more trips to get a mouth full of air if their water is bad and needs changing.

One reason is cuz u need it to breathe its photosythesis. We breathe out carbon dioxide plants breathe that in and breathe out oxygen which we breathe in. Without plants we would die.
