The value of any coin depends upon how many people want to own it. The more people who want it, the more it is worth. There are those certain wheat cents which collectors and investors find desirable and for this reason they are highly valued. Most wheat cents, however, are considered common which means there are many of them available in the market and not so many buyers for them, thus they have a low value. A common wheat cent will have most of its value in its condition. Excessive wear on the coin will lower its value while another cent with very little wear will have a greater value. Wear points on the wheat cent that collectors look at are the wheat heads on the reverse side of the coin and the cheek bone of Lincoln on the obverse side of the coin. Coins with little wear on these areas will possess the greater value.
