You don't really. You can try it though. Almost always when you put a female and male in one tank, they spend the first ten minutes fighting and then in a few hours they will. watch them, once you are sure she is done, take the parents out into separate tanks. If you don't remove them, they will eat the eggs. In about a week, they will hatch. If you want more, the soonest they can again would be in a month or until the last are full grown. You don't know when they want to, but there is a 90% chance they will. Go to my friend's role play website- bettafishstream.webs.com
when a female is ready to mate you will see a white spot by her vent. when a male is ready to mate he will make a bubble nest. the bubble nest will be at least 5 to 6 cm. long. you have to put the betas together the male will squeeze the female until all the eggs come out. then remove the female. the male will protect the egg's .in two days the eggs will hatch. in three month's you have to remove the male or he will eat them on accident

You mean betta fish, right? Betta fish cna lay eggs if you have two of the opposite gender in the same tank. If you have a male and female betta in one tank, they won't fight. If you have two females or two males, they will fight. So, you could see if they get allong. ig the bettas do lay eggs, they can still live together, but you MUST place tyhe eggs in a seperate tank, or they'll most likely be eatten. As for the lifecycle of a betta fish, if properly cared for, they can live for years. Two years is very old for some fish, but one man had a goldfish for 13 years!
The male Betta builds a bubble nest at the surface of the water. The ova(eggs) are fertilised under the nest then collected by the male in his mouth as they sink. He then places them in the nest where he tends them.
