At 30 years old you should be able to tell quite easily the sex, the males shell underneath tends to be concave (dips in) and the females straight but sometimes the female does have a concave shell so the best way is too look at the tail, a males tail is long and thinner than a females and he will keep it to one side when he walks the female tail is short and dumpy almost triangular in shape.:)
The last Galapagos tortoise is a male. His name is Lonesome George.

I just discovered today after I thought the tortoise was male that it is female. The tortoise is about 8-9 years. I was just wondering if female tortoise's can lay eggs without a male and what age would it be? Thanks
well a male has a bigger tale and a female has quite a small tale
Some good names for a female and male Leopard Tortoise pair is Fred and Ethel, Betty and Barney, or Lucy and Desi.
You will need a female to lay the eggs and a male to (first) fertilize the eggs.
A male.
Not all brindle, or tortoise, color cats are female. However, there is only a small percentage of brindle color cats that are male.
yes this is normal. a male tortoise with sex on his mind will not be interested in food. i advise that you separate the male from the female. if you keep them together for too long then the female will become very stressed with his relentless advances and he will drop weight from not eating and will be unsuitable for hibernation. i put my male and female together for only two hours per day for these reasons then i separate them. i hope ive helped, shan x .
If the tortoise is male, you can neuter it, but have a veterinarian do it.
because the male will try and get on the female
