Many things can stress out a hermit crab. You should have at least 1 gallon of space per hermit crab. Hermies also need the right temp and humidity which BOTH is between 70 and 80. Most hermit crabs you buy are purple pinchers. They are climbers so have alot of climbing toys such as bark for them (do not crowd the tank) they need distilled water, and SEA salt water as well. you should spray their tank LIGHTLY once a day. and have at least 2 hermies.

I sing children's lullabies very softly to my hermit crabs. Usually they are all curled up in their shells, and when I sing they come out and wave their antennae at me.

What causes stress to a hermit crab?

Hermit crabs get stressed when they get taken from the wild, taken from the pet store, and when they are handled too much.

Do you need to feed your hermit crab if it bites to much?

Hermit crabs do not bite, they pinch. When a hermit crab pinches you that means that they are intimidated and stressed out, and possibly hungry. In your crabitat there should always be fresh food available to your hermit crab so it does not starve. Your hermit crab lost his arm is it dead?

It is considered a limb, not an arm. And the loss of a limb does not necessarily mean the hermie crab has died, but is a hermit crab that is very stressed. One needs to double check their tank perimeters to make sure they are correct.

Where did hermit crabs get their name?

Hermit crabs get their name by being of the crab family. The hermit part is because of how they live in a shell, alone. But they are very social creatures and live in the wild in hoards. A hermit crab should never be bought alone, being alone makes them get stressed and die easily.

Why did my hermit crab come out of its shell and bury itself?

Hermit crabs may come out of their shells to find a new shell or because they are stressed. Burying itself could be a natural behavior for molting, reproduction, or seeking a more suitable environment. Ensure your hermit crab has appropriate shell options and a comfortable habitat to help prevent stress-related behaviors.

How did the hermit crab gets its name?

It's term 'hermit' is not because it doesn't like other hermit crabs. The hermit crab actually loves being with other hermits. It is called hermit crab because it is only one hermit crab in the shell. It's term 'hermit' is not because it doesn't like other hermit crabs.
