On the Isle of Iberia there was a folk lore tale of a bogeyman that would scare children so when the Portuguese sailor's sailed to these tropical places they saw these nuts growing on the trees and when they could get them down from these palms the nuts seem to have faces which the Portuguese sailors called coco or cu co . Meaning in Portuguese ( bogeyman ) . Hence the coconut was born from a folk lore tale .
