Answer 1 (from Islamic Perspective)

Islam is an Arabic word that means submission and full surrender to God, the one and only one God. In this broad sense, it is the God mission to all his prophets from start of mankind until the last prophet Muhammad (peace upon him), including Adam, Noah, Abraham (Ibrahim), Ismael, Isac, Jacob (Israel), Joseph, Moses, David, Solomon, ..., Jesus, and Muhammad (peace upon them). However,

  • the religion per God revelation to the great Messenger and Prophet Moses (peace upon him) is called Judaism,
  • that per God revelation to the great Messenger and Prophet Jesus (peace upon him) is called Christianity, and
  • that per God revelation to the great Messenger and Prophet Muhammad (peace upon him) is called the very name Islam.

Answer 2

Islam religion, per God revelation to Prophet Muhammad, started by the God revelation of the first verse of Quran, Holy Islam book, to prophet Muhammad by the angel Gabriel (Jibril) in year 610 AD while he was meditating in mount cave in Mecca (Makkah) called Ghar Hiraa. Quran revelation to prophet Muhammad through angel Gabriel continued until his death in year 632 AD.

Answer 3

ISLAM has always existed but it was not as popular until the coming if the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) when the revelations of God came to him (saw). Islam is a true Religion. Its teachings are based upon kindness and respectfulness. It is a example for everyone. Muhammad didn't bring any new faith , he just made the teachings of Allah , the teachings of Jesus more specific and famous . since the concept of worship was same except without any corruption like Christianity with time...

Answer 4

As per Muslim ,Islam and Quran ... the Islam is absolute religion which exists from the day one of the mankind and Adam (peace be upon him) was the first prophet/messenger of Allah ....and the last being Muhammad (peace be upon him) ......

The following verses from Quran proves the point ....

And He(Allah) taught Adam the names of all things; then He placed them before the angels, and said: "Tell me the names of these if ye are right."

( Quran,Al-Baqara, Chapter #2, Verse #31)

Allah did choose Adam and Noah, the family of Abraham, and the family of 'Imran above all people,-

( Quran,Aal-e-Imran, Chapter #3, Verse #33)

We(Allah) have sent thee inspiration, as We sent it to Noah and the Messengers after him: we sent inspiration to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob and the Tribes, to Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron, and Solomon, and to David We gave the Psalms.

( Quran,An-Nisa, Chapter #4, Verse #163)

And remember We(Allah) took from the prophets their covenant: As (We did) from thee: from Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus the son of Mary: We took from them a solemn covenant:

( Quran,Al-Ahzab, Chapter #33, Verse #7)

We(Allah) gave Moses the Book and followed him up with a succession of apostles; We gave Jesus the son of Mary Clear (Signs) and strengthened him with the holy spirit. Is it that whenever there comes to you an apostle with what ye yourselves desire not, ye are puffed up with pride?- Some ye called impostors, and others ye slay!

( Quran , Al-Baqara, Chapter #2, Verse #87)

Islam had been alive as long as the world has been, every prophet who ever came only spoke about Islam, bu if you want to know when Islam came to Makkah it came in 610 A.D when the prophet Muhammad (S) was 40 years old.

Muhammad didn't bring any new faith , he just made the teachings of Allah , the teachings of Jesus more specific and famous . since the concept of worship was same except without any corruption like Christianity with time...

Islam began with the teachings of the prophet Mohammed in the 7th century.

Islamism, however, is something else. It is a political ideology whose goal is to bring the religious tenets of Islam into the daily functioning of a government and its laws. Islamism is a modern movement whose roots began contemporaneously with the rise of Salafism in the late 1800s and early 1900s in Egypt. Islamism is not by nature violent or expansive. Many Islamist movements have concrete nationalistic goals such as the Islamists in power in Turkey.

There are two answers to this: the Islamic Theological Answer and the Secular Historical Answer. The Islamic Theological Answer is well-explained in the Community Answer below, and therefore, need not be rehashed. This is the Secular Historical Answer.

There is some debate as to the exact method of how Islam begin according to Secular Historians.

The dominant perspective is that the Islamic Story is more or less true, which is that there was an Arab man named Muhammad who argued that he had Divine Revelations in Mecca (now in Saudi Arabia) from 610-632 C.E. He was able to create a small community of believers in Mecca before moving to Yethrib (now called Medina, Saudi Arabia) in 622 C.E. It was in Yethrib that Muhammad codified his new religion and ruled as a theocrat, eventually engaging Mecca in war and conquering it in 630 C.E. By Muhammad's death, most of the Arabian Peninsula had capitulated to Muhammad and his Muslim army or united with Muhammad through diplomacy. The combined forces of Arabia were able to overwhelm their neighbors and create a new Islamic Empire called the Caliphate.

There is a more controversial perspective that the Islamic Story is generally false. They posit that Muhammad never lived or was not an important person in Islam's development. They posit that there was a religious revival in Arabia that united the various tribes in the early 600s C.E. They then began to conquer neighboring regions and establish an empire. In order to ground themselves, they later created the myth of Muhammad as unifying, rallying point for their theology and raison d'etre.

Regardless of this debate over the origin story, all Secular Historians dispute one of Islam's central claims, which is that Muhammad was a continuation of past traditions and revelations. They argue exclusively that the Qur'an is a new faith based on a number of Jewish, Christian, Rahmanist, Babylonian, Hanif, and Zoroastrian influences with a new organization.
