Removing excess cooking oil from a wooden bowl is done by lining the bowl with newspapercloth orpaper toweling. This will absorb the excess oil. Be sure to not over dry the bowl as it will become brittle and crack. The wood needs some oil to retain it's usefullness and beauty.

Use dishwater soap. I fill the sink a little bit with lukewarm water and add liquid soap as it fills and wash my hands in this afterwards. It's worked every time so far.
