Yes and No.
It really depends on the quality of leather you are working on. We have a very high quality dark brown leather couch, and two lesser quality club chairs.
On the high quality leather, the olive oil worked wonders. The scratch dissappeared before my eyes.
On the low quality leather, the olive oil lessened the look of the scratches, but did not get rid of them.
Hope that helps!
Put Olive oil on it every day for 3 days, and the smell should leave.

Leather is a very durable material that can sometimes get scratched up from daily use. The process for making leather involves preparing the animal hide with various procedures. In the final process of an important part of leather making, the manufacturer tans and dyes the hide to be ready for the finishing. This gives all kinds of leather materials a high quality stretchable wax finish. The leather’s patina and fresh look comes out when this procedure is done. It also saves the dyed leather color from fading out over time. A fast finish is applied to the leather to save it from dehydration and staining. These leathers are good for all types of furniture and clothing that may sustain scratches from daily use. The finish will seep into the leather’s pores and settle there for a long time. This finish will also keep the skin water and soap resistant, like a leather conditioner. However, even with these preventative measures, scratches still occur on occasion. Leather treatment may often include expensive conditioners and oils, but simple oils in your house should suffice most of the time. To remove scratches there are different techniques that have been used to much effect. One way to get rid of scratches on leather is to use orange oil. When you apply the orange oil you want use a clean dry cloth to rub it firmly on the scratch. Be sure to rub the orange oil into the scratch with circular motions. Another effective way to get your leather scratches out is to use olive oil instead of orange oil. Apply the olive oil on the scratch, then place a wet cloth over the scratch. You will then to use a clothes iron to briefly heat the wet cloth. Thoroughly rub the olive oil into the scratch when finished ironing. A different technique is to simply use milk as the rubbing solution. Take care that you do not use too much milk on the leather. Milk works better as a solution for darker leather than for lighter leather. Use circular hand motions with a cloth to rub it in the scratch. These simple leather repairing solutions will generally get out most shallow and deep leather scratches.
Try olive oil on a piece of paper towel. Don't scrub too hard or the leather dye could come off
The best way to remove motor oil from leather is to use leather cleaner. You can also try to use Oxy-clean.
You do not need a specific product to get the scratches out. You can do it yourself with a mixture of 1/4 cup vinegar and 3/4 cup olive oil. This has been tested to be successful in mixtures as strong as 1/2 vinegar 1/2 olive oil.
First remove the spew with hot water on a rag. When dry, clean boots with a few drops of olive oil on a soft rag.
the oils are in the leather; a cleaner will remove dirt particles on the leather, but won't touch what is embedded in the leather. Try advleather.blogspot.com
Rub some hair on it.
