Sams Club / Wal-Mart announced March 22, 2012 that it would no longer sell ground beef with the additive known as "pink slime".
This is just not true for the Sam's club in Dallas. I went in this saturday April 6th and I spoke with the meat department directly and he told me that they dont call it pink slime but yes its in their meat and it is perfectly healthy. This disturbed me because every post online says they dont carry it but they are selling it. Sam's offered no alternative.
I called my local Sam's club today and the butcher told me that they buy their ground beef from outside vendors and that all he could say was that it was "all beef" which is no answer at all considering the USDA allows pink slime to read as all beef and so the answer was inconclusive but I will personally no longer be buying their ground beef and instead either grinding my own or going elsewhere.
Shop Rite customer service says their ground beef does not contain lean beef trimmings (pink slime).
At Sams club Nathans all beef hotdogs a case is about $89.00
Pink slime is processed ground beef that has most of the fat removed with ammonia. Since it is made from ground beef, its safe to assume that it isn't in chicken mcnuggets.
No, they have never used it in their ground beef.
Yes
Pink slime was a substance used in McDonald's beef burgers but is no longer used. There is no equivalent used in ground turkey.
I emailed Red Robin and asked. Here is what they said: "Red Robin ground beef is made from 100% domestic (US) boneless beef trimmings. All trimmings used to make Red Robin ground beef are fresh, never frozen, and additives of any kind are not permitted in Red Robin ground beef patties. " Is red slime a "trimming"? Not sure.
"Pink slime" is beef trimmings. Once only used in dog food and cooking oil, the trimmings are now sprayed with ammonia so they are safe to eat and added to most ground beef as a cheaper filler.
They do, but they also offer many brands in all stores that do not contain pink slime. Kroger has the following products: -Private Selection Angus Ground Chuck, Gourmet Angus Patties, and Angus Ground Sirloin. -Laura's Lean Ground Beef -Private Selection All Natural Ground Beef sold in a 1-lb. package. 80% Lean and 90% Lean. -Private Selection Organic Ground Beef in a 1-lb. package. 85% lean. -Store-made ground beef from store trimmings prepared in store.
No, it is only beef that has pink slime. It is usually in cheap school lunches too.
Boneless 2 piece Chuck. We get it from the primal cut and ground it ourselves. No additives. No beef Aditives(pink slime). 100% pure 2 piece chuck
Smith's = Kroger's. Therefore you can google pink slime + Kroger and get the answer to your question about pink slime. My memory is that you are safe with Laura Lean ground beef and Private Selection ground beefs.
