Yes you can,hamsters are from the dessert so you can add sand into your cage but i suggest you to put sand into the bin cage.It would be more safe for your hamster to live there.But do not forget to provide them food and water.Do not plant or water their home though...
it depends, if it's a closed container than no because they wont get oxygen and die. if its a container with holes in the top, than yes, as long as they have room to walk around and they receive good amounts of food and water.
