Ghost crabs? Well that depense if it is a dead fiddler crab so it would be the same/
Neither of these animals lives in a freshwater aquarium environment. They are creatures of the sea shores, beaches and mangroves.
When the get to big for there shell the find anew one. They have to do the process really quick because there shell is what protects them. When a fiddler crab is to big for his shell he gets another one. He or she has to do the process very quickly. If he doesn't then most likely he will die. He will die because he or shes shell protects them from predetors.
your crab will die if you listen to this other guy trust mine are dead from him they eaqt baby shrimp and freeze dried plankton hope this helps
As long as you're sure your crab is dead and not molting, yes, dig it up immediately. You can boil the shell it lived in and put it back in your tank for other crabs to use.
Crabs are opportunistic eaters and will eat almost anything they can get their claws on. Unless aggressive, crabs will usually eat algae or dead animals rather than hunting live fish or invertebrates. Crabs will only go hunting if there isn't sufficient organic material to eat (such as detritus, algae, dead animals, corals, etc.) unless the crab is aggressive and prefers hunting.
yes
A decomposerYes. In a food web, decomposers break down dead plant or dead animal remanes. Crabs eat dead fish, and ocean bottom remains of other dead sea organisms. --Ed VacaRead more: Is_a_crab_a_decomposer
Hermit crabs have exoskeleton so they need to shed it and that is called molting. They need to dig underground it can take weeks to months so DONT dig it up. if you think it is dead and it smells like dead fish then it is dead. Some signs of molting is exessive eating, digging, drinking, bathing, and a sack under it's claws (for storing up food for when it will molt underground. After they are don't molting they will have their old exoskeleton DONT take it away it has ALOT of vitamins it will need i know it's gross but let them eat it.
Its probably just adapting to its environment. You can check if its dead by gently picking up its shell. A dead crab will often fall out of its shell. If its alive let it be. If it buries its self, don't dig it up. Chances are its molting. Molting can take a long time for some crabs and if there disturbed during this process, it may lead to death.
No, it is most likely molting.
