Answer 1The overwhelming majority of Persians (the dominant ethnicity of Iran and several surrounding nations) are Shiite Muslims. There is a small minority of Sunni Muslim Persians. There are also minorities of Non-Muslim Persians such as Baha'i, Christians, Zoroastrians, and Ahl-e-Haqq.

It is worth noting that there is an important distinction between Iranians and Persians. Iran is a country and the nationals of that country are Iranians. Persian is an ethnicity of 70 million people of whom only 50 million are Iranian Persians and the remaining 20 million live in Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and numerous other countries like France, Germany, the USA, and Israel. (It is worth noting that Tajiks and Persians are the same ethnic group.) Conversely, there are nearly 30 million Iranian Non-Persians such as Iranian Azeris, Iranian Kurds, Iranian Balochis, Iranian Arabs, Iranian Qashqai, and Iranian Mazandarani, among others.

Answer 2
  • First it should be identified that nothing now is called Persians. Persians is an old name before the people of Persia convert to Islam. It should said Iranians and not Persians.
  • Second, the wide majority of Iranians are Muslims as Shiites. It should emphasized that difference between Sunnis and Shiites is not as; for example; the difference between Catholics and Orthodox. It is just different schools and not as different sects. They are only different in minor side issues that not belonging to main Islam teachings and rules. They both pray the same way, pay the same alms giving (Zakat), fast the same month and the same way, and they go for Hajj in same places and practicing same rituals. They believe in same prophet and recite same holy book.
  • One should not give ears to those who are trying to amplify differences among Sunnis and Shiites just to create artificial conflicts that allow them to have control over Islamic countries and to secure control over their resources and to force them to always to be behind progress and development.
