In a perfect world, nothing should be kept in captivity but research and curiosity (learning) makes human try to keep wild animals in captivity. Should sharks as an entire species be kept in captivity, that is a difficult question due to the vast variety of sharks. There are some sharks that can't be kept in captivity due to what they eat, such as the Basking Shark. Some must have near freezing water like the Greenland Shark.
But some sharks do well in an aquarium, like the common dog fish. Some species of nurse sharks do well since they are active hunters at night when all the other fish become prey (nurse sharks in public large aquariums, not a home aquarium).
In the Georgia Aquarium, they keep Whale Sharks. In my opinion, they should not be kept in any enclosure but the people who catch whale sharks were going to eat it, so the Georgia Aquarium bought them for more than they were worth as food.
Should they be kept? No. But circumstances may force them to be kept.
Great White Sharks are big predators, and they tend to bite first and eat later. Not that many people are attacked by great white sharks, however, if a big hungry great white shark sees a person, he might attack to satisfy his hunger pains.
In the waters around it, yes. In it or on it, maybe in aquariums.
Because they are so popular for aquariums AF
As long as you keep alot of other fish in there too, so the sharks don't go hungry
Otto cats are actually a type of catfish, commonly kept in freshwater aquariums. They are algae eaters, and are relatively peaceful (non-aggressive). They prefer to school, and should always be kept in groups of at least 3.

Yes, many species can and are kept by expert aquarists in aquariums. Seahorses are notoriously difficult to care for though, and require very specialized aquariums and diet.
