The Rhinemaidens are the three water-nymphs who appear in Richard Wagner's opera cycle Der Ring des Nibelungen. Their individual names are Woglinde, Wellgunde, and Flosshilde, although they are generally considered as a single entity and act together accordingly. Of the 34 characters in the Ring cycle, they are the only ones who do not originate in the Scandinavian Eddas. Other legends and myths on which Wagner drew, notably the Nibelungenlied, include stories that involve water-sprites (nixies) or mermaids, and it is likely that he created his Rhinemaidens from these sources. The key concepts associated with them in the Ring operas-their flawed guardianship of the Rhine gold, and the condition (renunciation of love) through which the gold could be stolen from them and transformed into a means of world power-are wholly Wagner's own invention, and are the elements that initiate and propel the entire drama. The Rhinemaidens are the first and the last characters to be seen in the operas, appearing both in the opening scene of Das Rheingold, and in the final climactic spectacle of Götterdämmerung when they rise from the Rhine waters to reclaim the ring from Brünnhilde's ashes. They have no relationship to any of the other characters, and no indication is given as to how they came into being, beyond occasional references to an unspecified "father". (more...)

Yes! More people each year are killed by pigs than by sharks.
Sharks do not eat people. They might seem like huge monsters to everyone but that is actually a stereotype. Movies such as jaws, give people the impression sharks are man eating monsters but research actually states that soda machines kill more people than sharks do. Each year, 17 000 are killed in car crashes. 10 000 people are killed by lightning. 5 people are killed by sharks.
many people kill shaks for there leathery skin and fins for shark fin soup, a popular food in china for weddings. About one hundred million sharks are killed each year and six people are killedd each year by sharks. People are terrified of sharks, but it should really be the other way around.
Over 400,000 shark been killed by humans each year now sharks are endangered species
Sharks don't die from whaling! Whales die from whaling Every year more than one thousand whales are killed by the Japanese ALONE. But as for how many sharks die per year over 73 million sharks die per year just for their fins then are thrown back in the water and left to drown or bleed to death. when you add everything together more than 80million sharks die per year. Sharks cant reproduce as fast as they are being killed. Please help save the sharks. www.uwiu.net Support us! www.seashepherd.org/ Support our supporters! And support our marine life!
