A tropical Plecostomus is a type of catfish in the Plecostomus family, that lives in the tropical Americas (mostly South America).
"Bristlenose Catfish" or Plecostomus (Plecos for short) have an upper jaw but no teeth rather a sucker like mouth that uses a small flap of flesh to open and close while they pump water threw creating a suction effect that allows them to feed on algae and even dead animals. They are opportunistic scavenger. Larger ones will even become predatory if able to catch food like all catfish they are omnivorousness.
Guppies are compatible with Bristlenose catfish, the bristlenose being one of a few catfish that can live with guppies because of the guppies' water.

no but they are popular for their appetite for algae. if you do get a plecostomus be warned that they grow to about 2 feet long
They are bottom dwellers and will eat bits of dried food that has sunk to the bottom of the tank. They are omnivores and obviously prefer their food fresh like all other fish. They are NOT Vegetarian or Algae Eaters so lettuce and cucumber are not on their list of yummy things to eat. Plecostomus sp. like Bristlenose algae eaters will love that kind of fare. If you wish to give your Rainbow Shark a treat, feed it some live tubifex or red or blackworms
Yes.
Plecostomus are fun fish in an aquarium, they eat algae and grow over a foot long.
