Sharks can be diurnal or nocturnal. Some are both however most are one or the other. Also sharks don't actually go out and attack in the sense they are murdering something, they eat food like all animals do and because some humans have interfered (usually unintentionally) sharks have been thought of as killers. I'm pretty sure we have killed a lot more animals for food than sharks have killed us. Nevertheless we need to eat other aniamls to survive so we aren't doing anything wrong.

They usually attack when visibility is poor for prey species. They take their prey by surprise from below. They usually hunt early in the morning before the sun rises fully, when the visibility is poor. They usually come up fast from below and attack an unsuspecting prey that is at the water surface. During such attacks, the prey may be thrown off from water, with even the shark making a jump out of the water. Sometimes, when an injured prey starts to escape, they are known to chase and finish the hunt.

Sharks hunt day or night. It does not matter if the sun is shining or the moon is. They hunt both day and night. Although some sharks are more aggressive during the day, like the lemon shark.
