Why fish put many eggs?
Survival of the species. More is better because not all get fertilized. Some eggs get eaten by other fish or after hatching some of the fish get eaten. Not all growing fish find enough food to stay alive and some get caught by fishermen or again get eaten by other fish. As long as at least a few males and females make it all the way to have children of their own then the species survives.
