You have paid holidays because it is part of your religion that you have to be home on those days. Your company can not punish you by not paying you on the days that your religion says is a holiday.

Answer:The reason you have paid holidays is because it's illegal to make you work on holidays. Almost no one works on holidays except maybe fruit sellers and people who have their own company or buisness. Some restaruants are open too (including Tim Hortons). And it is correct that sometimes it's because you need to have a holiday off, spend some time with your family.
