Pip is a hero in great expectations because at times he puts others before himself. I would call him a romantic hero because he set out to get something for himself but he ended up helping others. In the first chapter I would say pip is somewhat of a hero as heroes are described as people who are admired for their brave or noble deeds, and pip is certainly brave being in a graveyard all by himself and certainly noble when he risks personall harm by mrs Joe when he gets the food for his convict. Later in the novel, pip unfourtunatetley becomes a rather horrible person, but he then manages to redeem himself by trying to get magwitch out of the country much further on in the book.
