They are the same in the fact that they both wish not to marry the person chosen for them. But in Valentine's case she wishes to marry Maximilien while Eugenie wishes to go on a new journey and do art. That is all I can think of now. ok. Valentine is in love with Maximillion (no idea how to spell his name) and Eugenie despises men and marriage. There are lesbian undertones in her character that were not explored further in the book. Valentine, while being madly in love, is still unwilling to sacrifice her family's reputation to pursue her lover. Eugenie, however, doesn't give a damn about her family's reputation. She runs off with her music teacher with little money, and pursues music as her career (scandalous, in the 19th century). Basically to sum it up, Eugenie has incredible determination, a more masculine characteristic. Valentine is very feminine and submissive.
Eugenie Bonaparte was born in 1872.
