Life was meek and disease and malnutrition were common. There was a great contrast between rich and poor. Most people were struggling to feed their families. Streets were dirty because all the sewage and rubbish had just been dumped there. The streets where very narrow and the houses close together.
The murder rate was high. About twice what it is now in New York City and five time the US national average.
Life in the 1790s was vastly different from today. It was a time of great political upheaval with the French Revolution, and industrialization was just beginning to transform society. People lived in a largely agrarian society, with limited access to education and healthcare. The economy was primarily based on agriculture and trade, and social class divisions were prominent.
It mostly consisted of kids go to school five days a week, and church on sundays. They used crops, metal, copper, slaves,etc., for money. It was a good source of financial income. Most families made a living from that. Women tended the household while the men and children tended the fields and worked.
