The sentence is an example of a conflict that arises from differing opinions or beliefs, known as an ideological conflict.
Character against nature
This is known as internal conflict. This sort of conflict faces the character with a choice: "should he kill her or spare her?" It also represents a crumbling of the characters sanity or foundation.
Character against nature
In a character-versus-society conflict, the character's struggles are against societal norms, values, or expectations. These conflicts often involve the character's fight against injustice, discrimination, or conformity within society.
The conflict that occurs when Odysseus tries to outwit the Cyclops Polyphemus is primarily a man vs. monster conflict. Odysseus uses his cunning and intelligence to deceive the Cyclops and ultimately escape, showcasing the cleverness and resourcefulness of the hero.
Every war or revolution in history has produced change of some kind, although the changes were not always improvements.
Character versus society
As with all good plays, Proctor is involved with more than one kind of conflict. He is in a Character versus Character Conflict with Abagail who is using the trials to punish those who have slighted her, and to eliminate Elizabeth, so she can have John. He is in a Character versus Society conflict with the court, as it condemns dozens of people on the word of the girls alone. He has a Character versus Self conflict, trying to maintain his honesty when signing a false confession would save his life.
The conflict is the main problem of the story. It can either be between characters, between a character and their surroundings, or a struggle a character has with themself.
