It's entertaining. People have been enjoying it for five centuries and more. It's cathartic, too. You can't help feeling sorry for Romeo and Juliet and how their relationship went wrong. Sometimes looking at someone else's misfortunes makes it easier to bear the ills you have, by allowing you to say, "Well at least things could be worse. That could have been me."
