Or if your looking for like the lesson or something is that even though there was a lot of prejudice in society there is still hope for change, even if Tom was convicted. They took a long time to convict Tom than usual which obviously meant sometihng. They are taking babysteps.
The change lies in the next generation; in the children, in kids like Scout and Jem.
