Basically in "The Necklace" a woman decides to borrow one of her friends diamond necklace for a party. After leaving the party, she checks to see if the necklace is still around her neck. It's gone. So instead of telling her friend whom she borrowed the necklace from that she lost it, she spent years trying to scrape up the money to pay for a new real diamond necklace.. After finally replacing it to the owner, the woman lets her know that it was not even real.
