When Jem invites Walter to their house for dinner, Atticus asks Walter questions about the farm, meaning he's showing interest and care to Walter. He also doesn't comment about the way he eats, he just lets him be. Where as when Miss Caroline found out he was of the lower class, she treated him somewhat differently, sort of like he was garbage.

Atticus showed respect for Walter's country manners by engaging in polite conversation with him during lunch, treating him with kindness and consideration, even though Walter was from a less educated and refined background. This demonstrated Atticus' ability to see the value in every individual, regardless of social status or upbringing.
