It was impossible because Tom Robinson couldn't control his arm since it was disabled and the marks on Mayella were done with a left arm. Couldn't have been Tom since he couldn't even keep his hand on The Bible when he stepped up.

If Tom Robinson was white, it's possible that he would have been acquitted of the charges brought against him. The racial prejudice and discrimination that existed in the time and place of the novel would likely have not been a factor in his trial outcome. The story would have unfolded differently with a white defendant, potentially leading to a different thematic exploration of justice and morality.
