Lennie is a Christ figure in that his love is so powerful, it overwhelms. He is a compassionate man who would never purposely harm a fly, but he is so much stronger than everyone else he cannot help himself. The stroke of a hand meant to express love to a rabbit kills the small creature. Curley's wife, drawn to Lennie both sexually and emotionally, ends up lifeless on the barn floor.
