The author can use indirect characterization to move a plot along in the following manner: the body language of the character can be an indication of how the character is feeling. i.e. pensive, apprehensive, happy, joyful, timid, aggressive and so on.
Other characters in the scene can also describe what another character in the scene is doing. For example, if one character describes another character as pulling a gun and pointing it, and the dialogue of the character pointing the gun is, "Smile when you say that partner." Then the reader can infer that he is being passive aggressive.
And so on.
A writer can show indirect characterization by revealing a character's traits through their actions, dialogue, thoughts, and interactions with others, rather than explicitly stating traits. This allows readers to infer characteristics and motivations based on the character's behavior and the way they are perceived by other characters.
