When you're in a Long Distance Relationship communication is pretty much all you have. So if the pair of you aren't communicating then there really isn't much of a relationship.

Anyway, the physical difference is that, a fighting dog has more muscles and is much stronger. Do not give up, first and foremost! Fighting over stupid things is better than fighting over major things!! When people in a long distance relationship fight, I've noticed that a lot of times the reason it's over stupid things (such as where the other was for an hour, why didn't you tell me you called this person, etc) is because the tension is actually over the relationship itself, and how not seeing the person that means so much to you can be very stressful, so you snap at them more. What I would do (and am doing...) is bear with it and know that you love each other and all the fighting will seem so trivial someday, should you two move in together/not be so far apart. If the fighting seems to be too much to bear, just keep in mind that this type of relationship has no where near the same dynamics that other types do. Two people that never fight in person may fight all the time over the phone.
