I think it is because people are social creatures by nature. Most people crave the contact with other people. So when you are alone, you feel it deeply. It just means that you have to get out there and find some ways to socialize so that particular aspect or need of your life is met. I was grounded to my room once. And I had nobody to talk to, so I almost felt about ready to cry... and I hardly ever cry! But I agree with the above response. You need social time with other humans. It's one of the human needs.
